While the information presented was somewhat basic, I still learned several things. I am far from an expert gardener, and yet I have some little bit more than basic knowledge. I picked up a few tips for sure.

However, the wording and the editing of this book were really terrible. Again, I’m no English teacher, but I’ll tell you, there were so many editing mistakes, it made the book difficult and somewhat challenging in parts to even understand what the author Was trying to say.

That’s what made reading this book a real dilemma. Decent information, and yet a terribly hard read, at least for me. Thus, the three star rating.

I managed to snag this while it was free, I'm glad I did, it gave me some ideas I hadn't thought of and I learned some things I didn't know... I've been doing little herb containers on my windowsill for a little while now and thought it might be nice to get some vegetables started too...now I know a few that will take to the small space pretty easily.
Producing your own vegetables is one of the easiest and most cost effective ways of becoming more sustainable. Those of you that only have small spaces to work with will appreciate this beginners guide to container growing. The book is not detailed but it serves as a good introduction for those wanting to get started on producing their own fresh and healthy vegetables.
This is a very good introduction to vegetable container gardening. You'll learn about basic container gardening, upside down container gardening, raised bed gardening, indoor & outdoor container gardening. The author covers the basics you'll need to start ad how to plant. You'll learn about planting from seed, the easiest vegetables to grow, herbs, dwarf trees and flowers. There's also a section on drip irrigation systems. Good book.
If you are considering planting a small garden for the first time, this book will offer you many options and ideas. If it does nothing else, it will convince you to get going in the garden, something we all need encouragement to do.

Don't have space for a garden? Just use a container. Want to keep your weeds to a minimum? Use newspaper and cardboard. These and many other ideas will spark your imagination.

This is not a fully detailed book, it talks about drip irrigation, for example, without going into great detail of telling you how to put together a system. It discusses companion planting while giving a few examples, but without providing a full list. But it will set you along the way, and it will give you much to think about.

If you want a more detailed book, they are out there, but this one is well worth starting with.
I've got lots of free books I'm supposed to review, but this is the only one I thought merited it. Almost type-o free and well organized, it's not a rambling tome like so many clearly unprofessional self-published books are.

It's straight-forward, really useful information, at just the right level and just the right amount for someone who wants to get started without getting overwhelmed.

I'd give it a 5 star if it had some companion plant graphics and an occasional illustration diagramming the upside down garden and self-watering containers for those who can't visualize such things.

Overall, worth the low price the author is asking for it, and I will be definitely be using it as my guide this spring.
Instructions on selecting containers, garden locations, selecting varieties, even a list of the 10 easiest vegetables to grow.

I picked up this book free during an giveaway. Contains good info about companion planting. Although her overenthusiastic style is a bit wearing, Verdant (obviously a pen name) does include a lot of useful information. I'm skeptical of the accuracy of some of it, though. I've tried to grow several of her "easiest" vegetables and failed completely, especially tomatoes; they are very temperamental in my experience! A true gardening novice could easily get the impression it was her own fault if she tried these "easiest" veggies and failed. There is a table of contents but it doesn't interface with the navigation menu; to get to it, "go to" the beginning and then page back one or two pages.
This is a lovely well-written book.If you are a beginning gardener.Mary gives you precise instruction on containers, soil, and watering. I learned so much about which soil works best and how to do upside down gardening. I'm sure that even an experienced gardener would find gems of knowledge in this updated book.I'm sure the book is even better now that it's been updated.

I really liked the information on drip watering.I always either over water or underwater my plants. When I decided to take on vegetables, soon I hope, I will definitely try the drip methods.

I will keep this book on my kindle for next spring.. My favorite plants are herbs. I have been lucky with my small herb garden. If I had known as much as I know now, I think I would have had even better luck. Studying where the sun is best is an excellent idea. I live where most of my yard is shady. My deck has the best sun and I believe containers will work great there. I can't wait to try.
